ruin for the dishonest

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his government will not shy away from taking difficult decisions in the interest of the country and favoured more taxes from capital markets.

Warning of "ruin" for the "dishonest" after December 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said his government will not shy away from taking difficult decisions in the interest of the country and favoured more taxes from capital markets.

Addressing public events, he also asked the dishonest not to underestimate the mood of the country against corruption.

"Dishonest people, you should not underestimate the mood of 125 crore people. You will have to be afraid of it... Time has come for ruin of dishonest people. This is a cleanliness campaign," PM Modi said just with a week to go for the expiry of the December 30 deadline when the scrapped Rs 500/1000 notes can be deposited in banks.

"After 50 days (from November 8), the troubles of honest people will start to reduce and the problems of dishonest people will begin to increase," PM Modi said at MMRDA ground in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) here after laying foundation of various big ticket infrastructure projects.

Earlier in the day at a Sebi function, PM Modi promised more "sound and prudent economic policies" which would be "not for short-term political point-scoring" but for "larger national interests".

"Let me make one thing very clear: This government will continue to follow sound and prudent economic policies, to ensure that we have a bright future in the long-run. We'll not take decisions for short-term political point-scoring. We'll not shy away from taking difficult decisions, if those decisions are in the interest of the country," PM Modi said.

How India lobbied Moody’s for a ratings upgrade, but failed: Report

Winning a better credit rating on India's sovereign debt would have been a much-needed endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's economic stewardship, helping to attract foreign investment and accelerate growth.

India criticised Moody’s ratings methods and pushed aggressively for an upgrade, documents reviewed by Reuters show, but the US-based agency declined to budge citing concerns over the country’s debt levels and fragile banks.
Winning a better credit rating on India’s sovereign debt would have been a much-needed endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic stewardship, helping to attract foreign investment and accelerate growth.
Since storming to power in 2014, PM Modi has unveiled measures to boost investment, cool inflation and narrow the fiscal and current account deficits, but his policies have not been rewarded with a ratings upgrade from any of the “big three” global ratings agencies, who say more is needed.

Forbes on demonetisation

Forbes magazine slams Modi's demonetisation: Immoral, theft of people's property

Calling it a theft of people's property, Forbes has compared demonetisation with forced-sterilisation drive undertaken by the then Indira Gandhi government during her Emergency regime of 1975-77.

Calling India's demonetisation drive as immoral, Steve Forbes, Editor-in-Chief of Forbes magazine, said it also amounted to theft of people's property.
The November 8 move to spike the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes had damaged the Indian economy, future investment and was also an assault on the privacy of common man life by inflicting more state control.
"India's government perpetrated an unprecedented act that is not only damaging its economy and threatening destitution to countless millions of its already poor citizens but also breathtaking in its immorality," the respected magazine said.

India Vs England

India Overtakes Britain As The World's Sixth Largest Economy

India's economy has reportedly overtaken the United Kingdom's for the first time in over 100 years, now standing as the world's sixth largest economy by GDP after the United States, China, Japan, Germany, and France.

The milestone is a symbol of India's rapid economic growth and, conversely, the U.K.'s post-Brexit slump.

Economically, it's been a banner year for India. In February, it surpassed China as the world's fastest growing economy. And in October, the International Monetary Fund predicted India would retain that title for the foreseeable future; its GDP is projected to increase by 7.6 percent through 2017.

India's economy benefited from a global commodities price slump through large trade gains and lower-than-expected inflation, according to the IMF. And since elected in 2014, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has driven sweeping market reforms to spur economic growth.

But with growth spurts come growing pains. Many of the reforms, touching everything from creating unified national taxes to deregulating the agricultural industry's fertilizer pricing, have been incredibly complicated, as a report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies noted. And some controversial reforms have not gone smoothly.

Modi to gift Rs 1,000 crore to Varanasi

Modi to gift four hospitals worth Rs 1,000 crore to Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stones of four hospitals to be constructed at the cost of about Rs 1,000 crore and launch other schemes on Thursday in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
The one-day trip will be his first visit to his parliamentary constituency after announcing a ban on two high-value currency notes.
Varanasi got Rs 572 crore under the scheme to improve its overall power supply. While launching the scheme, the PM said during his earlier visits to Varanasi he used to see dangling electric wires everywhere in the city. This scheme will be one of the efforts to make Kashi a smart city, he said.
